Girls Defend Riverdale Invitational Title
Last Thursday night, the split BSMS squad headed to either Cassville, WI or Port Byron, IL to compete in the respective schools' track invitationals. Due to a Good Friday conflict, the Riverdale Invitational was moved ahead one day which created some ingenuity to get all of the BSMS track squad members to two different meet locations.
At Port Byron, the girls defended their Riverdale Invitational crown by scoring 102 points behind seven first place finishes to easily outdistance Sherrard (80), Riverdale, and Stark County (79).
First place finishers were: Brianna Leahy (shot, 39' 2” new meet record, and discus 116' 10”), Emma Lawrence (100HH, 17.01, and 300H 47.44), Paige Murphy (LJ 16' 3” - new meet record), Trinity Law (HJ 5'1”) and the 4x100 relay (Matthews, Murphy, Pingel, Lawrence) 52.29. Second and third place finishers were: Paige Murphy (3rd 100m), Katie Pingel (2nd TJ, 3rd 100HH), and Emma Lawrence (3rd TJ).
The boys set a new Tri-Op record in the 4x200 relay (Lance Lierman, Ben Sigwarth, Ethan Shetler, Aaron Pulvermacher) with a time of 1:36.99 to take 2nd place. Other great performances on the day were turned in by; Jeremiah Bailey (1st HJ 6' 2”, and 3rd 110HH), Christian Vigrask (3rd shot), Jacob Winslow (2nd discus), Lance Lierman (3rd LJ) and the 4x800 relay (Krueger, Germaine, Redfearn, Pulvermacher) took home the silver.. For the meet (12 teams), the boys scored 59 points to grab third place behind Sterling Newman Catholic (116) and Morrison (69).
At Cassville, the boy's team tallied 85 points to grab third place in the seven team meet behind North Crawford's 198 and River Ridge's 147. Top three place finishers were; Alan Montanye (3rd 100m, 12.64), Nic Davis (2nd 3200m, 12:15.82), Matt Davis and Tyler Allen (tied 3rd HJ, 5' 2”), Wyatt Bastian (3rd TJ, 34' 01”), Shane O'Neill (3rd discus, 104' 8”), the 4x200 relay (Montanye, Scott, Cargill, Walton) grabbed 1st place with a time of 1:48.29, while the 4x100 relay (Walton, Charles, Scott, Montanye) 51.09, brought home the silver.
The girl's squad at Cassville was very limited, only competing in four events. They scored 19 points just ahead of Blackhawk's 16. River Ridge took home the title amassing 198 points. The girls did manage to grab first place in the 4x800 relay (Michelle Greenfield, Abby Pahnke, Sarah Lee, and Kristy Kruger) with a time of 11:56.78 and take 2nd place in the 4x400 relay (same team) in the time of 4:56.13.
