The BSMS track squads opened their 2017 campaign recording 4 new Tri-Op and/or school records last week in three meets hosted by UWP. There were also numerous personal best efforts set and many newcomers got their feet wet competing for their first time in the William's Field House facility.
On Tuesday, March 21st – Juniors Brianna Leahy and Emma Lawrence got the show rolling, each setting new Tri-Op and school records in the shot and 55m hurdles respectively. Brianna won the shot with the toss of 40' 3.5” and Emma grabbed 2nd place in the hurdles with a record time of 9.20. Senior Paige Murphy captured 1st place in the 55m dash while also taking 2nd in the long jump with a leap of 15' 2”. Senior Katie Pingle took second place in the triple jump (31'11”) and 7th place in the 55m hurdles, while the 4x200 relay (Murphy, Calli Jerry, Trinity Law, and Chloe Matthews) also grabbed the gold. Other notable place finishes were: Trinity Law (3rd HJ), the 4x400 relay (Lawrence, Pingel, Kristy Kruger, and Kaylee Turpin) took 2nd , and the 4x800 relay (Kruger, Turpin, Eve Notrott, and Abby Pahnke) took 5th place. For the boys: Junior Ben Davis led the way grabbing 2nd place in the HJ (6') and 3rd place in the pole vault (9' 6” - new Scales Mound school record), freshman Caleb O'Neill placed 7th in the 400m (58.74), the 4x800 relay (Josh Redfearn, Ryan Krueger, Aaron Pulvermacher, and Troy Turpin) took 2nd, the 4x400 relay (squad same as 4x400) took 5th place, while the 4x200 relay (Ben Sigwarth, Ethan Shetler, Zach Wiegel, and Alan Montayne) took 8th.
On Thursday, March 23rd a limited squad traveled to UWP – Junior Emma Lawrence grabbed 1st place in both the 55m hurdles and the triple jump (31' 7.75”) and on the boy's side Christian Vig Rask took
4th in the shot (39'6.5”), Tyler Allen took 6th place in the HJ, Reid Scott claimed 8th place in the LJ (16' 9”), the Davis boys, Ben and Nic, took 6th and 7th respectively in the pole vault (9'), freshman Matthew Davis took 8th in the HJ, and the 4x200 relay (Tyler Walton, DJ Hamp, Reid Scott, and Ben Davis) crossed the finish line in 6th place.
At the annual Tri-State Invitational- (Sat. March 25th) competition went up a notch as some of the best Division 2 and 3 teams in the area competed. The boys had a nice showing taking 12th out of 21 schools (20 pts.). Place finishers for the boys were: Christian Vig Rask (8th – shot), Ben Sigwarth (8th LJ 17' 8”), Ben Davis (6th pole vault 10' - new Scales Mound school record and 4th in the HJ), Junior Aaron Pulvermacher took 5th in the 800m run (2:11.73), Senior Aaron Coffey 8th 55m, Senior Josh Redfearn 8th 1600m (5:09.69), the 4x400 relay (Turpin, Shetler, Pulvermacher, O'Neill) took 6th in 3:51.06, and the 4x200 relay (Coffey, Shetler, Sigwarth, Montanye) took 8th place.
For the girls; Senior Paige Murphy set a new Tri-Op and school record in the 55m dash (7.79) grabbing 3rd in an extremely tough field while also placing 4th in the LJ. Also placing were; Brianna Leahy who took the gold in the shot (39'), Trinity Law 3rd HJ (4'10”), Katie Pingel 4th TJ and 6th 55m hurdles, the 4x200 relay (Murphy, Matthews, Jerry, Law) 3rd (1:58.77), while the 4x 400 relay (Law, Jerry, Matthews, Kruger) brought home an 8th place finish. The girls tallied 42 points on the day to claim 4th place in the 21 school meet.
Both squads resume competition on Monday, April 3rd @ Darlington.

Congratulations to Coach Lierman and the boys' basketball team as they continue their quest for the State Championship. They will play McDonald Central on Friday, March 17th, 2017 at 9:05am Best of luck!

BSMS athletes enjoyed some time in the University of Wisconsin-Platteville pool on Monday. Athletes worked on resistance training, strength training, flexibility, and even Pole Vault. At the end of their workout, they kept with team tradition and tried their skill at Water Polo.
